Out of commission for awhile

Hello everyone....My blog is going to be quiet for awhile. I had a fall last week and fractured my upper left arm. I am totally left handed so this makes it hard. The good news is I do not need surgery. I go back to the doctor in a few weeks. I am praying this does not turn into another frozen shoulder. I am going crazy not being able to knit. I guess I will be catching up on my reading. Hope to be back soon :)

Target Wave Mitten

Here are a few pictures of the "Target Wave Mitten" from the Fall Interweave Knits. I was having a ball knitting this mitten till I began the thumb section. The shape was disturbing and I actually shortened it by a few rows.I made this sample from acrylic that was in my stash. Maybe that is why the thumb seems so "wonky" , for lack of a better word. They do not look too bad when modeled. But, that is one strange looking mitten when it does not have a hand in it. The jury is still out if I will make a mate. I might knit one in some wool and see if it has a better shape. I am in love with the "Swallowtail Shawl" from this issue. I would like to start this with some KnitPicks Shimmer. I love Evelyn Clark patterns. I have been working away on the "Eyelet Baby blanket". I have about 8 more inches before I add the ruffle. It is nice to work on a mindless project right now. I have been sick for twenty days with "bronchitis". I am on massive amounts of prednisone and antibiotics plus an inhaler.I went back to the doctor on Monday and they increased the medicine. They gave me another breathing treatment which helped. I can not remember being this sick. I have not smoked in four and a half years. But, I know I certainly damaged my lungs. They want me to make an appointment with a pulmonary specialist. I am hoping that won't be necessary. Despite being under the weather..... We enjoyed the visit with the kids. They have been here for a week. They left yesterday morning to head back to Pennsylvania. The weather could not have been more beautiful. We have more company coming next Wednesday. They will be here for five days. I am really hoping I feel better by their visit. I had several people ask me about stuffing the zucchini. This is a recipe that I follow more or less: I like to add Ritz crackers and mozzarella cheese to this recipe

SAUSAGE STUFFED ZUCCHINI

2 tbsp. oil
1 sm. onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
6 med. or 2 very lg. squash, prepared for filling (reserve pulp)
1/2 lb. bulk sausage
1 c. fresh bread crumbs
1 egg
1 tbsp. chopped parsley
1/4 tsp. thyme
1/2 tsp. tarragon
Salt and pepper to taste

Heat oil in skillet and saute onion, garlic, and reserved zucchini pulp until onion is soft. Add the sausage and cook, breaking up, until it loses its pink color. Remove from heat to bowl and mix in bread crumbs, eggs, parsley, thyme, tarragon, salt, and pepper. Fill the shells and bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes until heated through. Makes 6 servings

This is one of our favorite summer meals . I make quite a few and then freeze the leftovers.
I have been reading quite a bit this summer. I just finished
The Memory Keepers Daughter . I would highly recommend this book. Kim Edwards is a first time novelist. I look forward to her future works. I have quite a few books waiting to be read. I am not sure what is next on the list. I guess that is all the news from "Irishknits". Have a great weekend everyone!

Eyelet Baby Blanket Posted by Picasa
I am still here dear readers.I am long over due on an update. I have been down with a case of bronchitis for the last ten days. I kept thinking I was on the tail end of a cold. I finally went to the doctor yesterday. She confirmed bronchitis and sent me home with an armful of prescriptions including an inhaler. I resisted trying the inhaler till an hour ago. It really does help. It has been very hot and humid here the last few days. Today it reached 100 degrees in town. Hopefully it is going to cool down this evening. We have family arriving Friday. They will be staying for a week. We are looking forward to the visit as we have not seen them since Christmas. So, I have been busy getting ready for their arrival. The knitting has been on the back burner these last few weeks. I have started the Eyelet Baby Blanket from Blue Sky Alpaca. If you have this pattern be aware there is a correction on their website for the ruffle. I am using Bernat's Cottontots for the blanket. It is a surprisingly soft lovely yarn. The blanket does not look like much at this stage. I think it will be gorgeous with the ruffle. I am also working on a pair of socks for my niece. I received my new issue of Interweave Knits in the mail. I can't wait to sit down and look through it. I have been reading quite a bit lately. I read "The Husband" by Dean Koontz , a very good fast pace thriller. I just finished Atonement by Ian McEwan. I know so many people raved about this book. I was a little disappointed with it. Especially the ending....I just started reading The Memory Keeper's Daughter. I have only read a few pages. There are so many good books out there and so little time. One of my customers dropped off two huge zucchini today. I am going to stuff them tomorrow. We both are huge fans of stuffed zucchini. I usually put sausage in mine. This time I am going to use some garlic and herb chicken sausages. I think the brand is Al Fresco. I have tried them twice and they are very delicious. I love this time of year with all the fresh fruits and vegetables. I guess I will wrap this up for now.... Happy Knitting and stay cool.
