Poncho update and "Frill"

I am winding down on my poncho. I am working on the hood and then need to put on the fringe. I always get so excited about finishing up a project. I was shopping in the mall with my niece the other day...I pointed out a poncho on a rack. She responded with"Well, that is nice, but not as nice as the one you are making me". Made my heart soar. I have had me eye on "Variations on a Frill" , since it came out in Knitty. What do you think of this ? I have been searching of the right yarn. I have been interested in incorporating beads into my work. This would be a great introduction. It also would be a great present for someone on my Christmas list. I have read a few comments about this shawl. Both people said they would make it wider next time. As soon as I finish up the poncho I am going to cast on for the "Making Waves" socks. That's it for my update for now.

Finished Healthful Throw squares

I finished up the squares for the throw for Henry. I just need to get them off in the mail to Patti . I am going to work a bit on my poncho tonight. I hope to cast on the "Making Waves" socks this week. I am knitting along with Karen (in Vermont). Hi Karen!!!!!! I need to work up a gauge for the "Bearfoot" yarn. I think it is closer to sock weight than fingering weight.Rather tired tonight...so I am signing off for now.

socks,squares and more poncho

I finally picked a yarn for the "Making Waves" for the Six Sox Knitalong. It is  beautiful shades of blues, in Mountain Colors "Bearfoot". I will post a pic of it tomorrow. I think it will show the design nicely. I have been racking my brain to find a sailboat dishcloth pattern I had seen somewhere. I have volunteered to make a few squares for Patti . She is making a Healthful Throw four a four year old boy with leukemia. I thought this little sailboat would make a cute block for the afghan. Tomorrow if I get a break at work I am going to run to the library and take out a copy of Barbara Walker's "Second treasury of Knitting Patterns". Maybe I can come up with something. I had searched the internet for a couple of hours for ideas for "boyish" squares. I just ended up starting a trinity stitch design. I will see how this works up. I am making good progress on the poncho. I have another five or six inches completed. I bought some more yarn today as I decided to make the bottom solid with fringe. I need to post a few more pictures.

Grrr.....

Okay...I went to my LYS and bought another 32 inch needle. I have finished  a few rows with both circulars. It would work much better if I had two longer lengths The 32 inches doesn't hang enough. I am getting very frustrated with this poncho. There may be a 60 inch needle in my future.

Poncho Progress Posted by Hello

Too crowded...

The poncho is working up nicely...But, I am way to crowded on my 32 inch needle. You would think out of all the millions of needles that I have ,there would be another 32 inch size 10. I am going back through my stash and see if I have two 24 inches. Isn't that always the way. You never have the exact needles you need. I hate to order a 60 inch from Elann. It would be a small fortune with shipping. Speaking of Elann, they have Patons Kroy sock yarn on sale. A very reasonable price. Hmmmmmmmmmm....  I only have about one fourth of the ponch finished. So, I will really be crowded as time goes on. I still need to pick my yarn for the Six Sox KAL. The sock is called "Making Waves". It is a gorgeous cable pattern. Today was Lacey's birthday. She loved the Ultra Groovy Poncho....what 7 year old wouldn't...lol. Off in search of another size 10. Wish me luck.

Tired....

I am tired tonight...I had eight haircuts in a row from the afternoon into the evening. Not that I am complaining, because it is good to be busy. But, The poor feet have had it for the day. Thank you all for the lovely comments on the poncho. I will be giving it to Lacey as part of her birthday present. I will see if she will model for a picture. I am making progress on the other poncho. I am using a 32 inch circular. I really could use a 60 inch. My LYS never carries the longer length needles. So, just keep squishing them along. Time to put up the feet and relax for the evening. Happy Knitting!

Ultra groovy poncho

I just finished uploading the picture of the Ultra Groovy Poncho. It is from the Patons kids, "Twister Sisters". The pattern called for The Twister yarn. But, I used Patons Divine. I think it came adorable and Lacey is just going to love it. In other news....I deleted my Tagboard yesterday. I realized that when people visit the blog they are getting pop ups. I have a pop up blocker, so I did not realize this. I know I find the pop ups very annoying. Although it was fun to have a place for people to leave a message other than the comment section. So , what do you think people? Are pop ups annoying? In more knitting news.... I appear to be obsessed by ponchos. I drove over to the Yarn basket in Portsmouth yesterday. They had four or five poncho designs. A few of them were in books. I was looking for a style that could be considered more of a coat than an accessory. I bought the new Family Circle Easy knitting magazine. It has three or four ponchos. I also purchased this poncho . Scroll down to the children's poncho #243.I am enlarging this because I need it to fit a teenager. I have about 8 inches worked up so far.

Frogging

I spent the morning frogging the mini poncho for Lacey. It was just TOO big for her tiny body. Let me tell you that Patons Divine yarn is very difficult to rip out. I had to be careful because it kept snagging on itself. But, I only lost a few yards of it. Soooooooo......I have cast on the Girls poncho from the pattern I picked up yesterday. I have about 8 inches done so far. The yarn is very soft and fluffy. She will love this. I feel a poncho obsession coming on. I also looking for a very lacey poncho pattern to make for Adrienne. I have not seen anything that strikes me so far. I received some nice comments on my shawl. I just love it when people leave comments...So feel free. Off to work on the poncho. Happy Knitting everyone!!!

Six Sox Knitalong

Yeah!!!!! They have announced the new sock for the Six Sox Knitalong. The pattern is called "Making Waves" and what a beautiful sock it is. I am thinking about whether I want to use a plain or variegated yarn. I think the pattern will show up nicer on a solid yarn. I wish I had access to some Lorna"s Laces. I have wanted to try this yarn for awhile. Decisions, decisions.... I bought a couple of poncho patterns today. One is a Patons pattern with an adorable girl's poncho made out of Twister. I am not crazy about working with Twister so I will substitute with something else. The other pattern is from Light and Lofty. This poncho I am going to make for my 10 year old niece. I have never used the Light and Lofty before. It has a funky feel to it. I am also working on a pair of  American girl socks. Here is the link for them http://www.socknitters.com/PATTERNS/agsocks.htm
They are so adorable. I am making them to match the little girl sock for Lacey. Talk about tiny, tiny socks. Off to start my other mini poncho

socks and mini poncho

What a long day at work today....My feet are feeling the effects of standing on them all day. I finished up a pair of socks that I made for my 7 year old niece. They came out just darling. I will tuck them away for Christmas. I also made the capelet/mini poncho for Hailey. It is a super easy pattern and worked up very fast. I added a few extra rows to make it a bit longer. I will take some pictures tomorrow evening and post them. Sooooooo.....What to cast on the needles next? I have so many projects that I want to make. That is always the way with us knitters. I can never have more than two projects going at a time. I get very overwhelmed with several. I usually like to have a pair of socks and something else going. I think I had mentioned that I joined the Six Sox knitalong last week. They have finished up with the first sock. They will be announcing the 2nd sock sometime later in the week. I am excited to see what the pattern will be. I am going to knit this sock with my friend Karen over in Vermont (Hi Karen). All for today...I am going to tuck in with a good book.

finished the shawl

I finished the shawl last evening. I ended up doing a I-cord bind off on the top. I think this gives it alot of durability. It is always so exciting to finish a project. It was a fun and easy lace pattern. I was reading Knitpulsive 's blog. She had made a few of the "Round the capelet"mini ponchos. They are so adorable. Here is a link to the pattern capelet. I had a few skeins of Jiffy Woolease kicking around in my stash. I have worked about four rounds on it today. It seems to be a quick and easy project. My 10 year old niece will just love this. she had been asking me about ponchos a few weeks ago. I also have a small pair of socks that I am on the home stretch with. So many projects ....so little time. Speaking of ponchos... My mother used to knit ponchos for use girls. I think we each had two of them. She would make them on circular needles with different stripes and designs. I wish she still had some of those old patterns. Everything come around again, what was once old becomes new. Funny how that works. I put a tag board on the blog today. Now, if I can just figure out how to move it up so people can see it.Hmmmmmmmmmmm..........

St, Seraphina Shawl Posted by Hello

Irishknits

I am still working away on my shawl. Here is a link to the St. Seraphina Shawl here . I am debating with using a I cord bind off on the top of this shawl. I am using the Rainbow Dream shade of mohair. It has been a fun yarn to work with. I also purchased the Mulberry Sky shade. I am going to make a shawl for my self with that shade. I have been looking at "Shawls and Scarves: The Best of Knitter's Magazine ". There are several beautiful shawls in this book. I am putting it on my wish list. I hope to figure out how to host a picture this weekend. I am pretty thrilled that I got the link to work...lol. Happy knitting.

my new blog

Hello out there....this is my first attempt at a knitting blog. I have been reading blogs for quite awhile. I really enjoy them, and they inspire me to branch out into different areas. I think this will be a fun way to record my obsession with knitting. I hope to inspire others as well. Currently I have been knitting socks and shawls. I am working on a beautiful mohair shawl for my sister. I will post a picture when I figure that part out. I also just joined the Six Sox Knitalong. They have already completed the first sock, but I hope to catch up soon. Now I am going to navigate around my blog and see what it is all about.
